spffffoooons
In the Fawlty Towers episode "the Hotel Inspectors" Basil launches into a verbal attacks on anally retentive guest Mr. Hutchinson when he realising he's been lickarsing someone who works in spoons and isn't a hotel inspector. He sibilantly says, "So you work in spoons, sppoooffffoooons, do you."
Basil's wrong, spoons are great especially when they're made by Quico

Cocoon - take the years off you
Beauty product made from silk cocoons contain the silk protein Sericin, a compound filled with amino acids that are very similar to those found in your skin, Sericin amino acids are often extracted from silk and then used in anti-aging moisturisers.
When you use our steam sterilised unrefined cocoons, Sericin is released like a protective anti-wrinkle serum whilst the textured surface of the cocoon will gently exfoliate and stimulate the epidermis to help balance your skin. Woop! Woop! Good skin!
Directions:
The cocoons fit neatly on to the end of the fingertip. Dampen with water and apply, also use to exfoliate and smooth the facial pores. You can tone and moisturise afterwards if you wish

Ahoy there
Me hearties, this is not the most useful products in terms of everyday life unless you work out at sea. but looks great.Tracklog tracks things like mechanical shock, time, pressure and temperature and stores this so it can be read afterwards when the unit is taken up from the deep sea. KADABRA in cooperation with minoko has supported Marine Innovation in designing and prototyping the tracklog. It comes in two versions, one orange for sub sea use, and one blue for on land use.The Norwegian design company KADABRA behind the project are also doing alot of interesting stuff.

Trash City
Design enthusiasts and try-hards who insist on sexed up household rubbish bins usually veer between Brabantia or Danish Vipp bins. Well Vipp's just turned an elderly 70 and their original Holger Nielsen's pedal bin has gone mini with only 400 copies available. Nielsen's husband made it in 1939 for his wife Marie's hairdressing salon. It's a classic to store your yukkies and unsightly trash in. It's an inoffensive classic that will impress.

Bike Bondage
They look a bit fetishy and they look a bit like something Wallpaper* would have put in their latest slightly off-key "sex" issue but they're actually hand-stitched leather handlebars for analogue transport enthusiasts. ie. bicycle lovers. London-based Japanese designer Akira Chatani has hand made these smart leather handlebars for proud bicycle enthusiasts. Check his other work out at Ico Design

Skins
Designer Ron Arad has just teamed up with Kenzo to create a perfume bottle for the first time. Made from four natural ingredients, orange blossom, bulgarian rose essence, vanilla pod resinoid and frankincense essence the brief was to create the scent of skin. Ron Arad's mother apparently smelt of marble as she was a sculpture so when you smell his take on "skin", it should evoke marble dust.
If you want to buy it, just sidle up to the counters in Paris, Brussels, New York or London and ask for the "unidentified" fragrance (no kidding). Lovely packaging and the zamac metal bottle shape is a particular draw. There are only 2,300 bottles in the world but it doesn't launch til September so you could start queuing now.

How Swede
Trust the Swedes to have the ultimate "design" toys for kids. Swedish company Playsam was founded by Carl Zedig in 1984 and is best known for its "Streamliner" car (above). It also designed a range of toys for handicapped children during the early 1980s. It's range marries pure form with pure function.

Why does the new Canon Powershot E1 series sport so many curves? It's voluptuous design is meant to represent the feminine touch - designed by women for women. There's also a new Easy Mode for amateurs who need help when snapping.
Get the boot.
Vienna-based Ludwig Reiter do bags, shoes and take the sloane factor out of riding boots.

These Vachetta leather brogues for summer are a dusty pink.

This vienna weave "Slatin Pasha" shoe is made from antique calf and mounted on Salzburg lasts with linen lining. This shoe was named after Viennese Rudolf Slatin who fought as an officer of queen victoria in Egypt and Sudan

The Vienna weave translates excellently into a dainty riding boot. The vienna weave is made by weaving 6mm wide leather strips on a loom in a diamond shaped linen weave similar to yarn weaves for cloth fabrics.

Sweet and Sour
My friend Alice is getting married and got some sweets hand-made specially for the big day. The company she found to do this is based in Barcelona and called Papa bubble. They're lemon-flavoured to add a little sour to what is a very sweet union when A + A - Anselme and Alice get hitched. Lucky wedding guests who get to take it home!

Reading goes Nu-rave
Upstart company Interead's new COOL-ER e-book reader makes reading look positively nu-rave. It's aimed at people who are non-tecchy. It's also launching an E-book store says Reading-based CEO Neil Jones. Eight different colours in eight different languages, the COOL-er was launched as Jones realised demand for the Kindle outstripped available supply and that there was still room in the market.
